A Democratic super PAC disclosed nearly $3.7 million in expenditures targeting five Senate battleground states, according to documents filed Friday.
The Senate Majority PAC filed papers with the Federal Election Commission documenting expenditures against Republicans Joni Ernst in Iowa, Thom Tillis in North Carolina, Sen. Mitch McConnell in Kentucky and Rep. Cory Gardner in Kentucky. The filings also showed expenditures in support of Arkansas Democratic Sen. Mark Pryor.
The expenditures are a mix of direct mail, media buys and media production costs.
“In every one of these races were are in prime position to finish strong and win,” Ty Matsdorf, an adviser to the super PAC, told the Washington Examiner. “But we can’t leave anything to chance, and realizing that Tea Party groups and the Koch brothers are flooding millions in these races, we are going to be aggressively making sure voters understand the choice in this election.”
The expenditures bring the PAC’s year-to-date spending against Tillis to $10 million, McConnell to $5 million, Gardner to $4.9 million and Ernst to $4.8 million.
The PAC has spent $4.9 million in support of Pryor.
Tillis opposes Democratic Sen. Kay Hagan in North Carolina, McConnell faces a challenge from Democrat Alison Lundergan Grimes, Gardner is running against Democratic Sen. Mark Udall, Ernst is battling Rep. Bruce Braley for an open seat and Pryor is defending his seat from Republican Rep. Tom Cotton.
