Arrest in slaying near D.C. high school A Landover man is in custody after a fatal shooting in the parking lot of a D.C. high school.

The slaying happened at about 8:30 p.m. Friday on the 100 block of T Street NE, near McKinley Technology High School, D.C. police said. Officers who responded found 36-year-old Ralph Thomas, of Temple Hills, suffering from gunshot wounds. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police said 25-year-old Oma Crawford is charged with first-degree murder while armed.

Fairfax man charged with embezzlement

Police say an Annandale businessman is charged with embezzlement for allegedly keeping money that people expected him to send to their families in Korea.

Richard Lee, 51, was charged after more than a dozen people complained to police about his check-cashing business, Sky Annandale, located at 4127 Hummer Road, according to Fairfax County police.

Police said all of the victims are Korean and were sending money to relatives and friends there. The funds they lost in Lee’s alleged scheme range from $700 to $3,000. The victims would give Lee the cash and he would give them a receipt, but the money never made it overseas, police said.

Man, girl bit by rabid cat

A man and a girl were bit Friday by a rabid cat in Chantilly, according to Fairfax County police.

Police said a stray cat bit the 25-year-old man and 11-year-old girl on the 4200 block of Lees Corner Road at about 7:45 a.m. Friday.

The cat was euthanized and tested positive for rabies. Anyone who had contact with the euthanized cat in the past three weeks should also contact the animal services division at 703-691-2131. The cat is a brown tabby with black vertical stripes and yellow eyes.
