Maryland Gov. Martin O’Malley said Monday night he is seriously considering a run for president in 2016 that could potentially put him up against Democratic perceived frontrunner Hillary Clinton.
O’Malley’s remarks came during an on-air interview with Fusion’s Jorge Ramos. Ramos asked O’Malley if he’d support a Clinton run in 2016 like he did during the 2008 campaign. O’Malley then said he is seriously considering a run for the White House despite his personal and professional relationship with the former secretary of state and former President Bill Clinton.
The Maryland governor, who is term-limited this year, would face an uphill battle against Clinton in name recognition and money. O’Malley would have to convince Democrats he’s a better option than Clinton and possibly Sen. Elizabeth Warren, D-Mass. who many Democrats are urging to run.
O’Malley is making all the right early moves that would signal a potential 2016 White House run. He’s visited early voting states like Iowa and New Hampshire and has spoken out on major issues including the humanitarian crisis at the Southwest border.
