Trump: Palin a ‘free agent’ in the campaign

Donald Trump said Monday that Sarah Palin is a “free agent” in his campaign, just a day after Palin said she’d work to unseat Speaker Paul Ryan from Congress.

“I have nothing to do with that,” Trump said when asked about Palin’s comments. “Sarah’s very much a free agent. She’s a terrific person, but she’s very much a free agent that — I didn’t know about this until yesterday. I guess she’s been fighting or she’s endorsing somebody that’s running against Paul Ryan. I didn’t know about it until yesterday when I read about it.”

When pressed, Trump said that not only does he want the House speaker on his side, but that he’s always liked him.

“I’ll go a step further, I’ve always liked him,” Trump said before repeating that Ryan “blindsided” him with his recent remarks.

“We’ll see. I’ll see what happens,” Trump added.

Trump and Ryan are set to meet on Thursday on Capitol Hill in their first meeting since Ryan said that he was not ready to endorse Trump last Thursday. Trump responded by calling Ryan out in a series of campaign events over the weekend.
