A White House official tested positive for COVID-19 during President Joe Biden’s trip to Scotland, where the aide remains in quarantine.
Another White House official said on Thursday the aide tested positive on Tuesday, the same day Biden left Scotland. The White House is keeping the aide’s identity concealed due to privacy concerns, according to CNN.
“This individual did not have close contact with the president and is not exhibiting any symptoms,” the other White House official said. “The person has remained in Scotland to complete the quarantine period with the support of the administration” and “additional tests to date have been inconclusive.”

The COVID-19 positive aide was in close contact with several other staff members of the White House. Those staff members were required to travel separately back to the United States where they tested negative for COVID-19 upon arrival. Biden also tested negative for COVID-19 when returning to the U.S. on Tuesday, the outlet reported.
The aide is not the only U.S. resident quarantining in Scotland. Eric Garcetti, the fully vaccinated mayor of Los Angeles, announced on Wednesday he tested positive for COVID-19 and would quarantine in his Glasgow hotel room.

White House press secretary Jen Psaki also revealed on Sunday she tested positive for COVID-19. Psaki said a family member tested positive and she later tested positive herself. Psaki said she did not accompany Biden on her trip to Scotland because of her diagnosis. She said she experienced mild symptoms and was fully vaccinated against COVID-19.
