An off-duty Border Patrol agent died Tuesday after being shot inside a hotel room in a neighborhood of San Antonio, Texas.
Jon Marburger, 47, who had been with the federal agency for 21 years, died after a shooting incident at the La Quinta Inn in Stone Oak, Texas, Customs and Border Protection confirmed to the Washington Examiner. The man’s wife, Sherry Marburger, was arrested at the scene and charged with murder late Tuesday, KSAT reported.
A CBP official confirmed that Marburger was a federal law enforcement officer based out of the Border Patrol’s Del Rio region in South Central Texas, which is approximately 150 miles west of San Antonio.
A San Antonio Police Department spokeswoman who spoke with local media said law enforcement learned of a shooting incident at about 8:30 a.m. CDT on Tuesday. Emergency responders found a man with multiple gunshot wounds at the scene. He was taken to the hospital in critical condition but did not survive.
Marburger’s wife, also 47, was detained on-site and later charged with her husband’s death. It remains unclear if the gun used in the shooting was the agent’s service weapon or a different one.
