Record levels of obesity followed government guidelines Re: “Stop talking care and start talking cure,” April 3
While I somewhat agree with Cal Thomas’ argument that disease prevention should be considered over cures, he ignores the fact that the various health-related government agencies are willfully ignorant of basic science as it relates to human health.
Human metabolism remains in the “hunter-gatherer” mode, where meat and animal fats are essential for good health. Veggies are OK too, but we don’t have four stomachs to efficiently process them, and they are nutrient-poor compared to animal products.
But our government agencies take the opposite tack, promoting vegetable oils and other corn and soy products because it benefits big agribusinesses like Cargill. The government’s food pyramid recommendations are precisely the opposite of what is actually required to maintain good health.
The government promoted the switch from saturated (animal) fats to polyunsaturated (veggie) fats two decades ago. We now have above-normal rates of obesity and clogged arteries, the latter primarily due to arterial inflammation caused by the “oxidizing” effects of polyunsaturated vegetable oils.
Our health-related agencies are wedded to bad science just like the EPA is wedded to the man-made global warming myth. Until that changes, no amount of preventive “good intentions” will resolve our health problems. You’re on your own to educate yourself about proper diet because the government will not help.

Trayvon’s case highlights persistent racism in U.S.
I am not shocked by the injustice displayed in the Trayvon Martin case. Growing up as a child in Mississippi, these kinds of incidents were very prominent. I left the Deep South to find refuge and peace in other parts of the U.S. To my surprise, I found out that racism exists all across the country. It just has different faces and is masked in different ways.
It really saddens me to see how justice has not been served in the Martin case. The United States seems to be going back in time, where racial injustice cases were just swept under the rug by the “good old boy system”.
But God is not mocked, and whatsover a man soweth, that shall he also reap (Galations 6:7). My prayer is that Travyon Martin’s assassin will be brought to justice.

What the candidates are not talking about
Candidates from the two political parties aren’t discussing the real issues that no one likes to talk about, such as immigration.
We are building more schools for children of illegal immigrants, going down the same path that Great Britain took. Who’s going to foot the bill?
