The coronavirus pandemic will be the deciding factor for voters in the 2020 election, according to Fox News anchor Chris Wallace.
Wallace was asked about a recent poll from Fox News showing President Trump and likely Democratic nominee Joe Biden in a tie for the White House after months of polling indicated Biden was ahead. During an interview on America’s Newsroom, Wallace said the change in the polling dynamics shows that the election hinges on Trump’s response to the coronavirus.

“In all of our polls for months, Biden had about an 8- or 9-point lead, and that’s now gone. It’s dead-even between Biden and the president,” Wallace explained. “I wonder, though, and you know, again, take it for what it’s worth, but it seems to me as this virus goes on that instead of this being a choice between the president and Joe Biden, as a lot of elections are, I kind of think that this election is going to end up being a referendum on President Trump and the handling of a coronavirus.”
He continued, “As we get into October or September and October after Labor Day, I think people are going to make a judgment, and they’ll understand the president didn’t create the virus, so I think they are going to be fair-minded about it. Do they think he handled the health crisis well? Do they think he handled the economic crisis well? If they do, I don’t see how he gets beat. If they don’t, I don’t see how he can win.”
As of Friday, the United States had nearly 487,000 cases of the coronavirus and more than 18,000 deaths. Jobless claims announced on Thursday showed that more than 17 million people throughout the country had lost their jobs since the pandemic shutdown began.
