Baltimore City Health Department officials are asking residents who have received care at Maryland General Hospital to seek help if they are ill. Legionella bacteria was found in the water supply at the Baltimore hospital.
Symptoms of legionella include fever, cough and shortness of breath. If those symptoms started within 10 days of receiving care at Maryland General, you should see a doctor.
Individuals not currently ill do not need to seek medical attention, according to the health department warning. Legionella infection is not transmitted person-to-person and can be treated with commonly used antibiotics.
Maryland General Hospital has been following guidelines from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. For information visit www.cdc.gov.
