Capitol Hill staffers were elated Wednesday evening to be able to taste a cake from Carlo’s Bakery, made famous by the show “Cake Boss” on TLC. But what’s a cake in Washington without a cause? This particular cake was to show off the work done by the heating, air conditioning, refrigeration and water heating industry. Seriously.
The 250-pound cake included two buildings and a swimming pool, with miniature fondant creations of baseboard heaters, water heaters, a walk-in refrigerator (for the miniature bakery), a chiller (providing air conditioning to the bakery) and a heat pump for the pool.
“They said it was the most intricate cake they’ve ever done of this size,” said Francis Dietz, the vice president of public affairs for the Air-Conditioning, Heating, and Refrigeration Institute, as he gave us a tour.
