FSU DEALING WITH BUMPY SEARCH FOR PRESIDENT
Florida State University is going to decide what to do next in its messy search for a new president. A search committee is meeting on Wednesday. The committee is expected to vote on whether to resume a normal search to find a new leader. FSU initially was planning on interviewing powerful Republican politician John Thrasher for the job and decide whether to offer him the position. But that interview is now being postponed after Supreme Court Chief Justice Ricky Polston stepped forward and applied for the job.
EX-PARTNER OF FLORIDA PONZI SCHEMER TO PLEAD GUILTY
A former partner of convicted Ponzi schemer Scott Rothstein in a now-defunct South Florida law firm is set to plead guilty to conspiracy. U.S. District Judge Marcia Cooke set a change of plea hearing for Stuart Rosenfeldt on Wednesday. He had previously pleaded not guilty. Prosecutors say Rosenfeldt was involved in campaign finance violations and financial irregularities at Fort Lauderdale’s Rothstein Rosenfeldt Adler law firm.
USAA BREAKS GROUND ON NEW HEADQUARTERS IN TAMPA
Insurance and financial service giant USAA has broken ground on a 420,000 square-foot Tampa headquarters that officials say will bring 1,200 new jobs to the area. The new building is scheduled for completion in 2015. Construction began Tuesday. The jobs will mostly be in client services, with the help of state and county funds through the Qualified Targeted Industries Program.
RAUSCHENBERG TRUSTEES TRIAL UNDERWAY IN SW FLORIDA
A lawsuit brought by three trustees who are suing the foundation of the late artist Robert Rauschenberg for $60 million in services is going to trial in Lee County. The trial began Tuesday. The trustees are seeking the money for what they call “extraordinary services” they’ve provided to the foundation. Rauschenberg, known as the world’s greatest contemporary artist before his death in 2008, lived in a compound on Captiva Island.
HOUSEKEEPER JAILED ON CHARGES OF STEALING JEWELRY
A Palm Beach County housekeeper has been arrested after authorities say she repeatedly stole jewelry from older clients’ homes. The Palm Beach Sheriff’s Office reports that 25-year-old Karla Elvir of Boynton Beach is accused of stealing 28 pieces of jewelry and then taking them to pawn shops. Deputies say the thefts took place between March and June, and Elvir received about $6,000 from the pawn shops.
