Marines investigated for saying racial slurs in Snapchat video

An investigation is afoot involving Snapchat videos that picture Marines yelling racial slurs, according to a report Tuesday.

Marine Corps officials confirmed to the Marine Corps Times there are Marines featured in the videos, which were posted to Twitter on Nov. 18 by a black activist and teacher from New Jersey.

“Is this commonplace,” he wrote with @USMC tagged.

Warning: Videos contain graphic language and racial slurs

“We can confirm some of the individuals portrayed in the videos are U.S. Marines,” III Marine Expeditionary Force said in a statement obtained by the Marine Corps Times. “The actions depicted in the videos are not in keeping with the high standard of conduct to which we hold all our Marines. We will thoroughly investigate the matter and take appropriate action based on the results of the investigation.”

It remains unclear how many individuals in the videos are U.S. Marines and what consequences they could face.

The Marines have been under the microscope in 2017 for their corpsmen’s use of social media.

Earlier this year, top Marines officials were dragged in front of congressional committees to answer questions about Marines posting pictures of women nude on a Facebook group, including pictures of fellow female Marines.
