Sen. Ted Cruz’s Monday presidential announcement made Christmas come early for Jon Stewart and “The Daily Show.”
Stewart was positively gleeful as he prepared to mock everything from the kiss between Cruz and his wife to the fact that Liberty University students were forced to attend the campaign speech.
But the liberal host did make one good point about Cruz’s speech.
Cruz asked the students in attendance to “imagine” a world where the government respected their privacy rights and promised to make that happen if he was president. But then he contradicted himself by asking supporters to text “Constitution” to a phone number he gave out.
“Let me clarify this a little bit,” Stewart said. “Students at Liberty University were required to attend a partisan political speech where a small government conservative who has just promised he would respect privacy rights told them if they cared about freedom, text your information to a mysterious address that collects your cell phone number for undisclosed purposes.”
