Blume blossoms into all-around player

Meghan Blume didn?t garner the headlines of Kyle Dixon, Kip Turner or any of the other local players who ledVirginia to the NCAA Division I men?s lacrosse national title.

However, the John Carroll graduate can call herself a champion as she helped lead Adelphi to a 16-8 victory over West Chester last month in the Division II finals. Blume, a midfielder, scored a goal, had an assist and caused three turnovers against West Chester en route to being named the tournament?s most outstanding player.

“It was just an amazing feeling,” Blume, of Bel Air, said. “Everyone on the team worked so hard. We also got to enjoy the moment more because the game was not close toward the end.”

A junior psychology major, Blume had a solid season for the 16-1 Panthers as she finished with 25 goals and 15 assists. Her performance marks her third straight year of improved play. In 2005, she started all 16 games and had 25 goals and eight assist a year after appearing in just seven games.

“Coming from the IAAM A Conference, I felt really prepared for the college game since you are playing some of the most competitive schools in the country,” said Blume, referring to John Carroll?s league affiliation.
