RPJ sells affordable housing in time to avoid loan payment

Three apartment buildings set aside for low-income families in Alexandria are changing hands.

RPJ Housing announced the sale of three of its affordable housing properties Tuesday — a deal approved earlier this month by the Alexandria City Council, which helped finance the properties.

The council set aside $574,000 to help the buyer, Alexandria Housing Development Corporation, pay transfer fees and maintain the property, since RPJ seemed unable to make July payments on its loans on the properties.

RPJ fell into financial troubles last year when its director was accused of fraud in Fairfax County after allegedly forging documents to gain $700,000 in government loans.
