San Diego’s Comic-Con has been canceled for the first time since it began five decades ago.
Organizers of the pop culture celebration said they’ve determined it would not be safe to hold the event this year due to the coronavirus pandemic.
The annual event has attracted more than 130,000 in recent years, according to the organization.
The next Comic-Con is scheduled for July 22-25, 2021, at the San Diego Convention Center.
“Extraordinary times require extraordinary measures and while we are saddened to take this action, we know it is the right decision,” spokesman David Glanzer said. “We eagerly look forward to the time when we can all meet again and share in the community we all love and enjoy.”
