Take 5: May 20-22

Madonna, Michael Jackson and Prince dance party at the State Theatre, Friday A dance party of epic proportions is about to descend on Falls Church.

On Friday, Philadelphia-based DJ Deejay brings his Madonna/Michael Jackson/Prince dance party to the State Theatre.

“You’re dealing with the three biggest pop icons of the ’80s,” DJ Deejay (real name David Cassidy) said when asked why he selected those three for a party.

DJ Deejay has been spinning parties like Friday’s affair for a number of years now. He said that in recent years people have migrated to music they “know the words to or grew up with,” and away from house and techno.

“I think it’s an iTunes world,” he said. “When people go out, they want to know what they’re going to get.”

Asked if there’s a fourth artist from that era to go on the Mount Rushmore of great ’80s pop stars, DJ Deejay sees no legitimate candidate.

“They are the three that took everything to another level.”
