Anne Arundel County residents from 10 more ZIP codes must follow mandatory outdoor water restrictions.
“Due to the diminishing water supply, there can be no outdoor watering whatsoever,” said Anne Arundel County Executive Janet Owens on Monday. “We?ve had water problems in the past, but this is the first time I?ve seen this many water tanks this low.”
Northeastern and northwestern parts of the county are included in the extension of restrictions, affecting 175,000 to 200,000 residents.
The new water restrictions will be effective 24 hours per day until at least Wednesday when the water mains are expected to be replaced, Owens said.
Anne Arundel County Police will issue one warning against violators, followed by fines and disconnection of public water supply.
Emergency water restrictions were needed Sunday because of a break in a water main near Marley Neck Boulevard serving the eastern part of the county.
The northwestern area had been under mandatory water restrictions only in the evening hours since May because of maintenance on a large water main in Baltimore County.
County officials appealed to residents to conserve water to safeguard the water supply for fire protection and emergencies.
