Hot dog! Two color cartoons in a row! This one took a little less time than the last because 1.) practice makes perfect and 2.) it just doesn’t have as much to color. Adding the element of color into a black-and-white drawing definitely takes some getting used to.

By the way, for this cartoon, I actually took a color sample of Mayor Fenty’s skin color from a file photo of him. Finding the right skin tones can go a long way toward making a color caricature recognizable.

In regard to the content of the cartoon, I’m sure there’s a strong possibility that some people may send in letters accusing me of unfairly calling the D.C. School Board stupid. All I can say is that I think it’s dumb not to overhaul the city’s public school system. It appears a power struggle is brewing, and I just hope people keep in mind that above all things, the education of the students is what matters. Their future — which also is ours — is what’s at stake.
