A left-wing activist indicted on federal charges related to his role in the Capitol Hill riots has found a new way to monetize his time in Washington, D.C., on Jan. 6.
John Sullivan, who goes by the online moniker Jayden X, is releasing a book titled Insurrection: Uncovering the Storming of the United States Capitol on July 30, which will detail “the hidden truths of [antifa’s’] plot to overthrow Democracy.”
“As he uncovers, the alt-right community is identified as Proud Boys, Oath Keepers, and Trump Supporters. Who are hell-bent on Stopping The Stolen election by orchestrating the Insurrection at The United States Capitol,” Sullivan’s website reads. “In their last desperate attempt to halt the elected officials in the congressional meeting who are counting the electoral votes to declare Biden, the United States’ next president.”
An accompanying YouTube video promoting the book features former President Donald Trump denouncing antifa and various left-wing groups, as well as President Biden condemning the Capitol Hill incident.
The book is just the latest way Sullivan, who runs a militant left-wing organization called Insurgence USA, has managed to turn his alleged criminal activity into a lucrative business.
Earlier this month, Sullivan’s attorney argued that his client acted as a journalist on Jan. 6 and cited a $35,000 payment from CNN to license his footage from inside the Capitol.
“Insurgence USA is not deemed to have been involved in any criminal activity,” Sullivan’s lawyer claimed in a hearing. “Defendant is legitimately self-employed as a documentarian, and it is oppressive to require that he not be allowed to continue his primary area of employment for an extended period of time.”
Sullivan can be seen on tape cheering on others who broke into the Capitol and yelling, “Let’s go! This s— is ours! … Let’s burn this s— down.”
The Department of Justice has argued that Sullivan was an integral assailant during the Capitol riot, saying he “positioned himself with a front seat to not one, but multiple confrontations with officers at multiple locations, and made consistently gleeful exhortations about burning and breaking things.”
Sullivan, a former semi-professional speedskater, currently faces charges in his hometown of Provo, Utah, over his conduct during a Black Lives Matter protest he organized in June of last year.
“The protest traveled on the roadways blocking motorists who have the right of way. John Sullivan blocked vehicles from freely moving lawfully,” Sullivan’s arrest affidavit reads. “During the course of the protest, two handguns were brandished and two shots fired toward a motorist traveling to Home Depot. Vehicles were damaged by protestors as well as by John Sullivan.”
Since his arrest on federal charges in January, Sullivan’s personal website has gone through several makeovers. At one point, he offered memberships to Insurgence USA for $30 a month and $49 military-style cargo pants. His online shop has been deleted from the site.
Sullivan also ran an antifa Discord server that featured other left-wing activists discussing tactics and strategy at protests. A link to the server also appears to have been removed from his site.
Instead, Sullivan seems to have pulled back from the revolutionary language and instead bills himself as a “video journalist.”

The turn away from left-wing politics vindicates warnings other activists have made about Sullivan.
“Well this discord was made by John Sullivan and that dude is suspect,” one user wrote in Sullivan’s Discord server last month. “We in Portland Oregon do not trust him. I’ve come here to warn who that would like to know. John Sullivan is secretly a trump supporter and his brother Jason is a Proud Boy.”
