Tim Tebow threw an incompletion during a seven-on-seven drill. See, he’s horrible. No way should he play quarterback in the NFL. Move him to tight end. Now!

Oops. Tebow just threw a pretty pass about 25 yards downfield. See, he’s a winner. He can adjust to the NFL. Just tweak his mechanics and watch him roll. You’ll see!
When it comes to the Florida quarterback, the divergence of opinions is already legendary. And it’s amazing how firm the convictions are on both sides.
Whether or not he can turn water into wine, we’re not sure. But, according to his skeptics, including ESPN’s Mel Kiper, he has a better chance of doing that than of becoming a top NFL quarterback.
The good thing, we suppose, is that everyone is paying extra close attention to him, meaning there won’t be any surprises. Every flaw is magnified. He has qualities that will endear him to many. He has flaws — footwork, long windup — that some can’t overlook. At the Senior Bowl, no player has been picked apart more than Tebow. One day he’s listed among the players whose stock is falling. The next day? He completes a couple passes and now he’s rising again.
But, please, when saying he’ll be a good NFL QB, give us more than him just being a winner. So was Gino Torreta. Remember him? No? That’s because after he led Miami to a national title he wasn’t heard from again. Same with Ken Dorsey. And Danny Wuerffel. They were winners. Craig Krenzel had that description, too. Their coaches all said they’d do the same in the NFL because, well, they won in college. None did.
Unlike those players, however, Tebow can switch positions. His competitiveness and desire could help even if he is not the starting quarterback.
Would the Redskins take him? Certainly not at No. 4. But would it be a stretch to see them take him later? Maybe not. After all, coach Mike Shanahan spent time at the University of Florida this past summer (he used to coach there) and apparently is tight with the coaches and other members of the athletic department. Shanahan also likes to take chances sometimes. How big a chance is this? Depends who you ask.
