San Antonio Spurs coach Gregg Popovich defended Democrats from President Trump’s critique that liberals are only upset about the firing of FBI Director James Comey because of the FBI investigation into the election.
“I feel like there is a cloud, a pall over the whole country in a paranoid, surreal sort of way that’s got nothing to do with the Democrats losing the election,” Popovich told reporters before Game 1 of the NBA Western Conference Finals on Sunday. “It’s got to do with the way one individual conducts himself.”
Popovich, 68, never called out Trump by his name, but the reference to the commander in chief was pretty clear.
“For this individual, he’s in a game show,” Popovich added. “And everything that happens begins and ends with him — not our people or our country. Every time he talks about those things, that’s just a ruse. That’s just disingenuous, cynical and fake.”
On Friday, Trump tweeted, “Again, the story that there was collusion between the Russians & Trump campaign was fabricated by Dems as an excuse for losing the election.”
Democrats opposed the firing of Comey last Tuesday despite complaining about his performance for months and his recommendation during the campaign that Hillary Clinton not be prosecuted for her use of a private email server.
