Sen. Specter calls College Democrats ‘Republicans’

Here’s one downside to becoming a Democrat: forgetting which party you are in.

Sen. Arlen Specter, D-Pa., who after more than 30 years as a Republican became a Democrat last year, again was confused about his party affiliation when speaking to a group of Penn State students Tuesday, the Pennsylvania Ave. blog reports.

“I’m proud to be endorsed by the College Republicans, by the College [laugh] Democrats,” Specter told the crowd.

This line may have given some bait to Rep. Joe Sestak, D-Pa., who plans to run against Specter in the primary. For now, a Public Policy Poll released Monday shows Republican candidate Pat Toomey carrying a small lead on Specter in the Senate race, 46-43, but at this point 11 percent are undecided.
