Rubio posts massive $9.6 million fundraising quarter

Sen. Marco Rubio revealed Tuesday that his re-election campaign raised $9.6 million in the third fundraising quarter, a massive amount setting him up for the final month ahead of election day.

Overall, Rubio raised $9 million for his Senate re-election bid itself, while also raising $600,000 for the Rubio Victory Committee. The Florida Republican’s campaign has raised $11.7 million in total, having brought in $2.1 million in the nine days after announcing his campaign for re-election back in late June.

The campaign did not reveal how much they have in cash on hand.

Rubio’s total dwarfs that of Rep. Patrick Murphy, his Democratic opponent, who revealed a $3.3 million fundraising quarter on Sunday. Murphy also did not disclose his cash on hand total.

With just over a month until election day, Rubio is in the driver’s seat in his race against Murphy. According to the latest RealClearPolitics polling average, Rubio leads Murphy by a 5.3-point margin, taking 46.3 percent to Murphy’s 41 percent. He has also led in every poll since announcing his bid for re-election.

Rubio also received good news this week as the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee cancelled $1.9 million worth of advertising from Oct. 18-24 in the state, which was set to buoy Murphy weeks before election day.

The news for Rubio continued a good day for Republican Senate candidates on the fundraising front. Ohio Sen. Rob Portman announced Tuesday morning a haul of $4.5 million, including $3.5 million toward his own re-election bid.
