Al Green plans bill to keep Trump from pardoning himself

Rep. Al Green plans to introduce a bill later on this week that would keep President Trump from pardoning himself after the president mused about being able to pardon anyone.

Green, D-Texas, is one of two lawmakers to sign on to articles of impeachment against Trump and will announce Monday further steps against the president. He plans to announce legislation that would keep Trump from pardoning himself during a press conference at one of his district offices in Texas.

“No one is above the law,” Green said in a statement, “and this includes the president of the United States of America. The legislation I plan to introduce will make that clear.”

Reports indicate Trump has asked aides about his ability to pardon himself, family members and associates. In a tweet on Saturday, Trump said he has vast power to pardon.

“While all agree the U. S. President has the complete power to pardon, why think of that when only crime so far is LEAKS against us. FAKE NEWS,” Trump tweeted.
