Want an example of pathetic leadership? Look no further than the mayor of Cambridge, Mass., Marc McGovern.
On Sunday, McGovern released a statement condemning police officers for their arrest of a violent and disorderly man last Friday evening. The suspect in question, Selorm Ohene, is a Harvard undergraduate student and has been charged with indecent exposure, disorderly conduct, assault, resisting arrest, and assault and battery on an ambulance personnel.

Cambridge police were called after Ohene stripped naked, threw his clothes at at least one passing woman, and then refused to calm down. After approaching an officer in a threatening manner, as shown on the video below, other officers tackled Ohene. They then use authorized control techniques, including punches, to effect his arrest.
In response to this lawful and professional arrest, however, Mayor McGovern stated that “what is shown on the video is disturbing.” Leaving no doubt to the fact that he has put populist pressure before objective leadership, McGovern added, “I will continue working with my colleagues to make sure that the horrific treatment of black Americans at the hands of law enforcement has no place in Cambridge.”
Police mistreatment of black Americans is outrageous, but there’s no such mistreatment going on here.
It’s easy to see why leaders like McGovern are so willing to sacrifice police officers. After watching the video above, just read this idiotic and deceptive report from numerous student groups at Harvard University. Ignoring the facts and showing their own ignorance of the law, the students demand the officers involved in Ohene’s arrest be sacrificed on the altar of progressive orthodoxy.
They should be ashamed.
As I say, all the evidence suggests Cambridge police acted lawfully and appropriately. Why did they need to punch Ohene? To stop the clearly out-of-control man from biting his tongue or injuring an officer.
Or spitting in their faces. In their incident report, Cambridge police note that “While in transport, [Ohene] proceeded to spit a mixture of blood and saliva at an EMT,” and further that “two Cambridge Police Officers were also treated at a local hospital to receive treatment for minor injuries and unprotected exposure to bodily fluids.”
Should emergency workers be expected to sit idle as a suspect risks infecting them with HIV or some other communicable disease? No.
