‘Ted’ starts of strong at midnight showings

This weekend will be the battle of the bear and the beefcakes at the box office. In midnight showings, Seth MacFarlane’s “Ted” pulled in $2.63 million, topping Channing Tatum and his stripper buddies in “Magic Mike,” which brought in $2.1 million overnight. Both movies set the stage for a big weekend at the movies and set the stage for a bigger week next week — “The Amazing Spider-Man” hits theaters on Tuesday. We’ll find out on Sunday whether a foul-mouthed bear can beat a bevy of male strippers to win the box office weekend.
