Veepstakes losers react to Joe Biden picking Kamala Harris as running mate

Former Vice President Joe Biden has picked Kamala Harris as his running mate, and those women he passed up say they are pleased with the choice.

Rep. Karen Bass of California tweeted on Tuesday, “[Kamala Harris] is a great choice for Vice President. Her tenacious pursuit of justice and relentless advocacy for the people is what is needed right now.”

Susan Rice, a national security adviser and United Nations ambassador during the Obama administration, posted on the platform, “I am confident Biden-Harris will prove to be a winning ticket. I will do my utmost to help them win and govern.”

Gretchen Whitmer, the governor of Michigan, tweeted, “I am extraordinarily proud to support [Kamala Harris] and [Joe Biden]! They will be a fierce team to Build America Back Better. #WeHaveHerBack”

Minnesota Sen. Amy Klobuchar tweeted, “Filled with joy that Sen. [Kamala Harris] is our Vice Presidential nominee! This is a historic moment, and I know that her leadership, experience, and character will help move our country forward when she and [Joe Biden] take back the White House!”

Stacey Abrams, the failed Georgia gubernatorial candidate, posted, “Thrilled to support [Kamala Harris] as next VP. I was honored to speak with [Joe Biden] at length over the weekend and again today. His focus on reaching out to every corner of our country speaks to how he will lead us. I look forward to doing all I can for Team #BidenHarris!”

Biden also posted on Twitter, announcing his pick. “I have the great honor to announce that I’ve picked [Kamala Harris] — a fearless fighter for the little guy, and one of the country’s finest public servants — as my running mate,” the former vice president said.

Harris, who is a senator from California, also tweeted about being picked for the ticket.

Biden “can unify the American people because he’s spent his life fighting for us. And as president, he’ll build an America that lives up to our ideals. I’m honored to join him as our party’s nominee for Vice President, and do what it takes to make him our Commander-in-Chief,” she said.
