Man convicted in elderly swindle A Montgomery County man was found guilty of swindling an elderly woman out of more than $130,000. Roger Greenberg, 68, was convicted Monday on four of five counts, including exploitation of a vulnerable adult. He is scheduled to be sentenced on May 7. Prosecutors said Greenberg persuaded an 84-year-old widow to marry him and hand over her home and money. She was found alone and disoriented in a hotel.
Plane runs off runway in Gaithersburg
A small plane went off the runway into woods at the Montgomery County Airpark in Gaithersburg, authorities said. Fire department spokesman Capt. Oscar Garcia said firefighters arrived to find the plane off the runway Monday afternoon, but there was no fire or smoke. The pilot, the only person on board, was being evaluated. It was not clear if the plane was taking off or landing, Garcia said.
Missing man found dead in truck
Prince George’s County police are investigating the death of a man who was reported missing and whose body was found in Landover. Around 4 p.m. Thursday, police responded to a report of a suspicious vehicle in the 8700 block of Hamlin Street. Inside a 2008 Chevrolet Silverado, police discovered the body of Vernon Cooper, 39, of Clinton. He had suffered trauma to his upper body and was pronounced dead. He had been reported missing since Feb. 22.

Man sentenced in witness’ death
A Frederick man was sentenced to more than 24 year in prison for masterminding the murder of a witness. Steven L. Stone, 25, had pleaded guilty to conspiracy to commit witness tampering and other offenses in the 2005 death of David Wayne Lee Jr. Lee had been ordered to testify against Stone and others in a drug and weapons investigation. Stone is the fourth defendant to be convicted in Lee’s death. Members of the conspiracy called themselves “B-6,” for “the bottom of Sixth Street” in Frederick.
