The State Department has confirmed that a U.S. citizen was killed in Libya Tuesday after an apparent terrorist attack at a Western hotel in Tripoli.
The department had no additional details to provide as of 5 p.m., and the Defense Department deferred all calls to the State Department.
NBC News reported that the attack occurred at the Corinthia Hotel, a modern hotel frequented by Western businesses and government officials.
The Corinthia Hotel used to be a temporary outpost for the U.S. Embassy and has been subject to previous attacks, including one in August 2013.
