A Major League Baseball player will play ball again after surviving a motor vehicle accident on Sunday.
New York Mets first baseman Pete Alonso was driving to training when a driver of another vehicle ran a red light and hit his truck, according to a post his wife, Haley Alonso, posted on social media. Haley Alonso said she was in another car following behind and saw her husband’s truck flip three times before sliding on the road.
“It’s a miracle that he’s safe after this horrifying … accident,” Alonso wrote on an Instagram post showing the wreckage. “I thought I watched my husband die in front of me and I will never forget that feeling.”

The incident took place five minutes away from the Alonso’s home, she wrote. Her husband was able to escape the truck by kicking out the windshield. He only received “a single scratch on his arm,” she said.
Pete Alonso discussed the accident on Monday at spring training in Florida. The player said he was thankful to be alive and “just really blessed to be here.” He said he would join his team on Tuesday for a full workout, according to ESPN.
