Among the most anticipated events on Oscar night — why many tuned in to the broadcast — was to see what would happen when Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie crossed paths with Jennifer Aniston and John Mayer.
They didn’t — not in a dramatic physical moment, anyway.
While Brangelina held court on the red carpet prior to the show, Jen and John apparently snuck in the back door. Jen first made the scene as a presenter, taking the stage with “Kung Fu Panda” star Jack Black.
Yet, the moment wasn’t lost on producers of the telecast. The camera panned to Brad and Angelina not once, but twice, as Jen, looking a tad nervous, did her shtick.
In the first pan to Brangelina, Jolie laughed; in the second, the couple smiled slightly.
But Fox News commentators didn’t point to a winner in the showdown, saying Jen nicely composed herself after a “deer-in-the-headlights” situation.
Tom Cruise’s awkward run-in with ex Penelope Cruz
Remember when Tom Cruise and Penelope Cruz were a hot item? Apparently, he doesn’t. The actor acted sketched out during a recent run-in with his ex-girlfriend at a posh Beverly Hills house party Friday night, reports Page Six.
As Tom schmoozed in the living room, the “Vicky Cristina Barcelona” star came up to him. A source relays, “Penelope tapped him on the shoulder and timidly asked, ‘Tom?’ Tom turned around, got visibly flustered and awkwardly said, ‘Oh, hey. Hi,’ and gave her a small, distant hug before turning back around to his friends. It was weird.”
The cold shoulder came in spite of the fact that Tom’s wife, Katie Holmes, “was not there,” the source adds. “But he clearly hasn’t run into Penelope very often since they split.” We’re guessing Tom travels in some pretty insulated social circles.
Hayden’s new man a romantic?
Just a week after word broke that they had broken up, it sounds like Hayden Panettiere has already moved on from Milo Ventimiglia — and she’s so blinded by affection, she nearly got into an embarrassing
situation.
Here’s the setup: The petite actress had a burly companion at a recent L.A. party, reports the New York Daily News. “She had this grizzly bear-looking man with her,” a source relayed. “His name was Vladimir and everyone kept talking about how he was a wrestler. He was huge, though, especially in comparison to how small she is. He looked like he could’ve eaten Hayden as a small snack.”
The couple reportedly got to canoodling — and here’s the twist. A presumably soused partygoer decided to relieve himself in the fireplace in front of fellow guests. Get this: Hayden and her dude didn’t notice. “Hayden was so oblivious. The crowd around the fireplace scattered, but she and the hunky guy just stood there, holding each other and kissing. She was so close, Hayden must’ve gotten some pee on her shoes!”
Rihanna surfaces
Shortly after a shocking photo that appeared to show Rihanna’s beaten and bruised face surfaced on the Internet, the star herself was seen in public. She was spotted in L.A. on Thursday heading to the airport, after two weeks in hiding following an alleged battery by then-boyfriend Chris Brown.
And the “Umbrella” singer has also broken her silence about the incident — sort of. “At the request of the authorities, Rihanna is not commenting about the incident involving Chris Brown,” a rep said in a statement Friday.

On the red carpet, Sarah Jessica Parker said another “Sex in the City” movie is in the works.
“WALL-E” winner Andrew Stanton thanked his high school drama teacher for casting him in “Hello, Dolly.”
Presenter Ben Stiller’s impression of Joaquin Phoenix seemed to leave the Oscar audience divided.
