Houston police investigate mystery of 40 car break-ins

Police in Houston are investigating a mystery involving the break-ins of more than 40 cars and trucks at one apartment complex.

The Houston Police Department told the Washington Examiner it was alerted to the break-ins around 6:50 a.m. on Wednesday. A report from ABC13 said police found nothing stolen in any vehicles.

“There were people with their passports on their center consoles that didn’t get taken,” Brock Grabarkewitz, one of the victims of the car break-ins, told the news outlet. “My registration. I had some work paperwork in there that they kind of went through and just left on my seat. But if they were looking for something, they didn’t find it anyone’s vehicles.”

Houston police confirmed to the Washington Examiner the break-ins would be investigated. It is currently unclear whether the vandal, or vandals, was looking for something specific and never found it or if the break-ins were targeted, police said.

Grabarkewitz said the break-ins “seemed like a plan.”

“It’s not a homicide,” Grabarkewitz added. “It’s not a high-speed chase on the highway. It’s not a huge fire, but it’s ruining a lot of people’s weeks, a lot of people’s days, and it’s making me second guess if there is where I want to raise a family.”
