Hillary announces 2016 campaign with video, website launch

Hillary Clinton on Sunday announced her official campaign for president, unveiling a new website and posting a video online meant to inspire voters about the future.

The video is slightly longer than two minutes and is titled “Getting Started.”

Featured in the video are apparently middle-class families, many of them of diverse backgrounds and sexual orientations.

One by one, voiceovers say what the families are starting to do: moving, sending their children to school, beginning a new business venture. Included are a black couple expecting a baby, a lesbian couple and some white blue-collar workers.

“I’m getting ready to do something, too. I’m running for president,” Clinton says in the video. “Americans have fought their way back from tough economic times but the deck is still stacked in favor of those at the top.”

Clinton, wearing a red blouse and purple coat, continues speaking into the camera. “Everyday Americans need a champion, and I want to be that champion, so you can do more than get by — you can get ahead and stay ahead,” she says. “Because when families are strong, America is strong. So, I’m hitting the road to earn your vote, because it’s your time, and I hope you’ll join me on this journey.”

The video directs viewers to her website where they can donate money to her campaign.
