Well would you look at that — after months of bragging about the Affordable Care Act, the White House has decided to delay the incredibly vague employee mandate until 2015, conveniently right after the 2014 midterm elections.
The White House announced Tuesday it would be delaying the provision, which would require all businesses to provide the health insurance to employees. The mandate left much to the imagination though, and many business owners questioned what Obamacare meant for them, halting hiring and cutting hours to avoid the new requirements.
Following Congress’ passage of the Affordable Care Act, Republicans have unsuccessfully attempted to repeal the legislation more than 36 times. But with the White House’s announcement, the GOP has renewed their attempts for a repeal once more.
“[The] best delay for ObamaCare is a permanent one,” House Majority Leader Eric Cantor (R-Va.) said.
Many of the GOP’s leaders, including House Speaker John Boehner (R-Ohio) and Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.), echoed Cantor’s sentiments.
And while Republicans and even the bill’s architect, Sen. Max Baucus (D-Mont.), believe the Affordable Care Act will be a “train wreck,” Democrats are still holding out for the healthcare law to be a grand slam.
