One hundred seventy-one candidates for the General Assembly have endorsed the Healthy Maryland Initiative proposal to increase the state tobacco tax by $1 per pack to reduce teen smoking and expand health care access.
Endorsers include a number of members of the Assembly leadership from the Baltimore area including: Del. Peter Hammen, Baltimore City, chair of House Health and Government Operations Committee; Del. Maggie McIntosh, Baltimore, chair of the House Environmental Matters Committee; Del. Ann Marie Doory, vice chair of House Economic Matters Committee; Del. Samuel I. “Sandy” Rosenberg, vice chair of the Judiciary Committee; Del. Adrienne Jones, Baltimore County, House speaker pro tem; and Sen. Joan Carter Conway, vice chair of Health and Environmental Affairs Committee.
