Democratic presidential contender John Delaney knocked the Democratic National Committee on Thursday for not allowing Fox News to host any of the party’s primary debates.
Conservative commentator Hugh Hewitt had the former Maryland representative on his radio show Thursday and asked the candidate, who was the first to announce his candidacy this election cycle back in 2017, why he thought other Democrats have not gone on the conservative radio show.
“I don’t know,” Delaney said. “It’s the same reason why the DNC made, in my judgment, a bad decision not to allow Fox to do a debate.”
“I think we have to talk to everyone. And in many ways, we have a much bigger obligation to talk to those who we don’t agree with on things, right?” he said.
Delaney has positioned himself as a moderate. Despite campaigning for nearly two years, Delaney has not gained much traction at all. The former representative has not reached the donation threshold to make it into the first Democratic primary debate and doesn’t register in RealClearPolitics average of polls for the Democratic primary field.
Delaney has bucked other Democratic candidates who have leaned further to the Left, saying during a recent town hall that he rejects socialism in support of capitalism.
Earlier this month, the DNC announced Fox News was not permitted to host one of its presidential debates after a report from the New Yorker said the news organization was crossing the line into propaganda with its close ties to the White House. Trump responded by threatening to boycott general election debates hosted by “fake news networks.”
