Campaign insight

Humorist Dave Barry can make people laugh in print, but what about in person? Washingtonians will soon find out when Barry takes to George Washington University’s Lisner Auditorium for a performance Feb. 6.

“I’ll be funnier if they’ve been drinking,” Barry told Yeas & Nays.

“People do laugh in Washington, right?”

Like the rest of us, Barry has been following the 2008 presidential campaign and he’s learned a few things. “I’m just glad that Dennis Kucinich is still in it,” he said. “If you just periodically end sentences by saying ‘Dennis Kucinich,’you’re bound to get a laugh.

“And Mike Huckabee is a pretty funny candidate,” said Barry, “just because his name is Mike Huckabee. And he has the Chuck Norris factor, and Chuck has the hot-wife factor.”

But what about the candidates you want to laugh with, not at? “Fred Thompson is pretty funny as far as I can tell, because Fred doesn’t care whether he gets elected president or not.”
