Sanders blasts Clinton: ‘Condescending’ toward millennials [VIDEO]

Statements from Hillary Clinton about young voters continue to haunt her as Bernie Sanders responded on Sunday’s State of the Union to her.

Hillary appeared on Meet the Press the week before. “I feel sorry sometimes for the young people who, you know, believe this. They don’t do their own research,” she said about claims that she was accepting donations from the fossil fuel industry.

“I think that’s a little bit condescending,” Sanders said. He also spoke of his different experience with young people:

…I see them every day, because they’re coming out to our rallies. These are young people who want to be involved in shaping the future of this country, they’re proud of this country, they want to make it a better country. I think they do a whole lot of research, and I think that the Internet has opened up the opportunity for them to do a lot of research. And I’ll tell you, one of the reasons I think we’re doing so well is a lot of those people are going to the Internet and hearing what we have to say, and what Bernie Sanders believes in.

Last Sunday’s remarks were not the only “condescending” statements Hillary and her campaign made during the course of the week.

“There is a persistent, organized effort to misrepresent my record, and I don’t appreciate that, and I feel sorry for a lot of the young people who are fed this list of misrepresentations,” Hillary said during a Politico interview, echoing Sunday’s point.

On Wednesday’s Morning Joe, she also equated Sanders’ supporters with protesters. “Look, I think it’s exciting to be, in effect, protesting. I remember I did that a long time ago when I was in my 20s, and I totally get the attraction of this,” she laughed.

Clinton spokesperson Brian Fallon was asked about those comments, which he denied being condescending. “If you look at the breakdown of demographics right now, I bet a lot of the young people that are showing up to support Senator Sanders, their parents are probably voting for Hillary Clinton,” he noted.

Hillary’s efforts with the demographic, and certainly her words, are not helping win over young voters. A recent McClatchy-Marist poll showed Sanders has a commanding lead of young voters, 76 percent to 23 percent.
