This isn’t good news for the Flyers, who trail 2-0 in the Stanley Cup Finals entering Game 3 on Wednesday. Apparently, 41 of the 45 teams who have taken a 2-0 lead in the finals have gone on to win the whole thing.
Then again, the following also were supposed to be bad signs for Philadelphia: facing Martin Brodeur in the first round of the playoffs; falling behind 3-0 against the Bruins; being forced to juggle goalies because of injury. And the Flyers found ways to clear those hurdles.
But this latest hole draws concern. Philly has kept Jonathan Toews and Patrick Kane off the scoresheet. The Flyers received a strong performance in goal from Michael Leighton in Game 2. They’ve fired 65 shots on goal in the first two games of the series. And they have nothing to show for it. Meanwhile, the Blackhawks survived a sloppy Game 1 and slow starts by Kane and Toews to take a 2-0 lead into Philadelphia.
Chicago is 7-1 on the road in the playoffs. The Flyers have been overcoming obstacles, but the Blackhawks might finally have them pinned down.
