Pop Rocks
The House turns Rock and Roll Hall of Fame today, as members are set to honor icons of country music and soul.
First up: Rep. Tom Cole’s, R-Okla., H.Res. 1255, “Honoring Toby Keith’s commitment to members of the Armed Forces.” According to Cole and his 50 cosponsors, Keith has entertained more than 135,000 members of the military on USO tours, and “has volunteered to perform at some of the most dangerous and remote locations in the Persian Gulf,” including one at which mortar fire disrupted his show.
Next up: Rep. Marsha Blackburn’s, R-Tenn., H.Res. 1425, “Honoring the life and music of the late Isaac Hayes, a passionate humanitarian, whose music laid the foundation for many musical styles, including R&B, disco, and rap.”
Blackburn and her 20 cosponsors (what? only 20?) honor Hayes’ 200 songwriting credits and his “groundbreaking musical score and theme song for the movie `Shaft.'”
Both measures are expected to pass via voice vote tonight.
