Hillary Clinton defends $200K-per-hour speeches: ‘I didn’t take one of these phony’ corporate jobs

Hillary Clinton defended the $22 million in speaking fees she made following her stint as secretary of state.

“That’s how I made some money when I got out of being in the State Department,” Clinton said in a new Hulu documentary titled Hillary, which was released Friday. “I didn’t go on somebody’s board. I didn’t sign up to lobby for somebody. I didn’t take one of these phony jobs where you’re fronting for a corporation. I didn’t do any of it. I gave a speech for an hour, and they paid me.”

During the Democratic presidential primary, Sen. Bernie Sanders pressed Clinton to release the transcript of speeches she gave to Wall Street. The former secretary of state refused to release the speeches because Sanders would not release transcripts from three speeches he gave for a total of $2,000. Clinton charged $200,000 to speak for an hour.

WikiLeaks later claimed to have published transcripts from some of her speeches.

Clinton’s latest comments come as Republicans have been critical of Hunter Biden for being on the board of a Ukrainian gas company while his father, Joe Biden, was vice president. The younger Biden gave an interview in October in which he admitted he had “poor judgment” in joining the board.
