Electorate gets president — and nation — it deserves
Presidents who bad-mouth our nation and apologize to all and sundry certainly do not contribute to our image as a defender of the democratic way of life, not only for our own citizens but also worldwide. Under President Obama, we have abandoned that role by accommodating the oppressors of democratic efforts to establish governments that reflect our national character.
If the electorate continues to place in office presidents such as Jimmy Carter and Barack Obama, the American dream will be over. If instead, voters decide they want true believers in the American dream such as our founding fathers intended, such as Ronald Reagan and Harry Truman, there is still a chance that it will remain a reality.

U.S. was never a Christian nation
Re: “Christian nation? Not for a while,” Nov. 4
Gregory Kane is confused. While the majority of Americans have always been at least nominally Christian, the U.S. is not a “Christian nation.” In 1797, both Presidents Washington and Adams signed off on (and the Senate ratified) our treaty with Tripoli, which states that “The government of the United States of America is not in any sense founded on the Christian Religion.”
Kane may personally be opposed to freedom of conscience on abortion, but the Christian Bible does not condemn abortion, and indeed treats human personhood as beginning at birth, just like the Constitution’s 14th Amendment. On Nov. 2, the majority of Colorado Christian voters soundly rejected a proposed amendment to their state constitution that would have declared that personhood begins at conception.

IRS to taxpayers: Get your own tax forms
After 50 years of receiving IRS forms every January,I was recently informed via post card that the IRS would no longer provide me with a tax packet for this year.
The notice contained several suggestions as to how I could still perform my civic duty.
Reading between the lines, I gathered that the new motto at IRS is: “Don’t bother us, just show us the money.”
