A majority of Americans—including both Democrats and Republicans—still support drone strikes, despite concerns about civilian casualties and inaccuracies.
According to the latest Pew poll, 58 percent approve of U.S. drone strikes in Yemen, Pakistan, and Somalia. 35 percent disapprove.
Millennials (18-29) were the least likely to approve of the strikes, at 48 percent. Those 50-64 were the most likely, with 67 percent approving.
Republicans are more likely to back the strikes—74 percent support them—but a majority of Democrats, 52 percent, are still in favor of them.
Earlier this year, two Western hostages were accidentally killed in a CIA drone strike.
48 percent told Pew they are “very” concerned about the threat drone strikes pose to innocent civilians. Another 32 percent were “somewhat’ concerned.
Overall views of the country’s fight in Afghanistan were also bleak—56 percent said America has mostly failed its mission.
