MSNBC “Morning Joe” host and former Republican congressman Joe Scarborough accused his cable news competitors at CNN of ingratiating themselves to Donald Trump.
Scarborough, who has also been viewed by his critics as being overly sympathetic to the presumptive GOP nominee, said CNN has provided Trump with a friendly platform only to find itself derided by the candidate.
“CNN, they’ve been kissing up to him for months and months and months and months,” said Scarborough on Monday. “I mean, they’ve given him extraordinary access. … Seriously, after CNN has given him just incredible, unprecedented, extraordinary access and that guy right there (Trump), on a Saturday afternoon, attacks them because there’s one panel he doesn’t like.”
Scarborough was referring to a message Trump posted Saturday on Twitter of being “so negative” toward him and not allowing anyone from his “team” to rebut their comments.
CNN did not return a request for comment from the Washington Examiner.
The MSNBC host said Trump’s hair-trigger tendency to hit back at mild criticism would not lend itself to dealing with Congress, should he be elected president.
“That guy’s not going to know how to work with Congress anymore than [President] Barack Obama knew how to work with Congress,” Scarborough said “And then you’ve got [likely Democratic nominee] Hillary Clinton. Are the Republicans going to do anything with Hillary Clinton? No. We can already say, these two candidates are going to be a nightmare, if they get elected, in their relations with Congress.”
