SINGAPORE — North Korean leader Kim Jong Un arrived here at around 3 p.m. local on Sunday ahead of his planned summit with President Trump, bringing with him three top-ranking officials from Pyongyang.
The authoritarian leader was transported by motorcade to the St. Regis Hotel after landing at Changi Airport, where a heavy security presence had been in place since Saturday. He was joined by Kim Yong Chol, who met with Trump in Washington earlier this month, former North Korean ambassador to Switzerland Ri Su Yong, and foreign minister Ri Yong Ho.
Kim arrived several hours before Air Force One was expected to touch down at Singapore’s Paya Lebar military base, where dozens of reporters were gathered hours beforehand.
Trump will hold talks with Singapore Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong on Monday, prior to meeting with Kim the following morning. A U.S. official involved in planning said Trump and Kim would meet one-on-one, along with their translators, before opening the bilateral summit to their closest advisers.
The official told the Washington Examiner the U.S. and North Korean delegations would not interact prior to Tuesday’s summit.
