Tony Dungy, the first black coach to win the Super Bowl, was honored by the House of Representatives Tuesday, just weeks after he retired from football.
Introduced by Rep. Gus Bilirakis, R-Fla., the measure attracted 54 co-sponsors before passing by voice vote.
Meanwhile, Rep. Glenn Thompson, R-Penn., rose to honor Chuck Daly, the champion coach of the Detroit Pistons, who died earlier this month.
“Today I honor a man who held his first position as a head coach at Punxsutawney High School in my district, coaching the Chucks,” said Thompson. “In short, today we honor a hometown boy.”
