Lindsey Graham: ‘Not Obama’s fault that Crimea was taken by Russia’

Sen. Lindsey Grahama, R-S.C., said Sunday that the fault is not on former President Barack Obama that Russia invaded and took Crimea away from Ukraine.

“It’s not Obama’s fault that Crimea was taken by Russia. It’s Russia’s fault,” Graham said during an interview on NBC’s “Meet the Press.”

He had been asked about how concerned he was about President Trump’s upcoming summit with Russian President Vladimir Putin, put in the context of his skepticism in 2015 when Obama met with Putin after Crimea had been annexed by Russia.

Graham, a member of the Senate Armed Services Committee, said he’s “glad” Trump is meeting Putin, and encouraged Trump to be assertive with the Russian leader, including on matters such as election meddling.

Back in 2014, Graham said Obama was a “weak and indecisive president” in his approach to dealing with Russian’s invasion of Ukraine.
