Cruz nabs Labrador endorsement

Sen. Ted Cruz won the endorsement of Idaho Rep. Raul Labrador Wednesday as he looks to cement his spot in South Carolina with three days until the state’s primary.

In a statement, Labrador, a leading member of the House Freedom Caucus, touted Cruz’s conservative principles while railing against Washington, adding conservatives need to “unite” behind Cruz in order to win the GOP nomination and the general election.

“Sen. Ted Cruz has always been a stalwart defender of the constitution and a tireless advocate for conservative principles,” Labrador said. “Americans know Washington is broken. Ted Cruz is the only candidate that will truly change the way Washington works, restore the balance of power between the presidency and the American people, and advance the principles of freedom and liberty for all Americans, not just the privileged few.”

“It’s time for all conservatives to unite behind the one candidate that can win in November and defeat the Washington establishment,” Labrador said.

On Tuesday, Cruz also won the endorsement of Kansas Rep. Tim Huelskamp, making the pair the the latest of the 21 House members to back the Texas senator’s campaign.

The announcement of Labrador’s endorsement comes one day after the Idaho congressman blasted reporters for paying too much attention to the real estate mogul and GOP front-runner.
