The Coldwell Banker Cares Foundation is doing its best to make sure some of our troops won?t be forgotten during this holiday season.
Recently, Coldwell Banker Residential Brokerage mentors teamed up with students from Medfield Elementary in Baltimore and Louis Archer Elementary in Vienna, Va., to send 75 care packages to U.S. troops in Iraq and Afghanistan. The program is called Operation Thanks and “is a unique way to show that we care,” said Medfield principal Debbie Thomas. “And our students are learning the importance of helping others.”
“We will continue our support for the troops as long as they are serving in this war,” said Christina Bauman, who is the Advisory Committee chair for the Coldwell Banker CaresFoundation.
AN ENOCH PRATT CELEBRATION
The Enoch Pratt Library?s board of directors welcomed supporters to the Central Library Nov. 9 for the 10th anniversary of its Society Dinner. Robert S. Hillman, the Society?s chairman, greeted guests and introduced the library?s executive director Carla Hayden, who was thrilled to present a Lifetime Literacy Achievement award to E.L. Doctorow. The acclaimed author?s latest book, “The March,” won this year?s PEN/Faulkner Award.
The Distinguished Benefactor Award was given to Sayra and Neil Meyerhoff.
Seen enjoying the festivities ? and dinner ? were Helen Chase, Wilbert Walker, Luke Driscoll, William Sullivan, Theresa Edmonds, Jacqueline Purnell and children?s author Monalisa DeGross, along with board members James Piper III, Christine D. Sarbanes, Robert S. Hillman and Marc Steiner.
A PARTY WITH A PURPOSE
Baltimore D.J. Bobby Nyk, a diehard Ravens fan, recently channeled his football passion into a noteworthy cause. Nyk challenged Ravens fans to join him in Nashville, Tenn., for a tailgate party before the Ravens-Titans game Nov. 12. There was one hitch ? a $10 donation. Between Nyk and a Titans fan, who also hosted a $10-a-pop tailgate party, they raised $4,450 for Harris-Hillman Elementary, a Nashville special-needs school.
